Can you share about your culinary journey and transition into culinary education?
Certainly. My journey began with a passion for food writing after graduating in English Literature and Journalism. However, my love for culinary arts led me to cooking school, igniting a lifelong passion. I gained experience in esteemed kitchens across Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Napa Valley before transitioning into culinary education, where I found my calling.
What inspired you to pursue a career in culinary education?
It was serendipitous. Initially pursuing cooking school to enhance my food writing, I fell in love with teaching. From apprenticeships at hotels to restaurant jobs, I eventually found myself in education, where I’ve been for the past 28 years.
What motivates you the most as a mentor to aspiring chefs?
Immediate gratification in cooking is immensely satisfying. I enjoy receiving instant feedback, and as an educator, witnessing my students succeed and grow in their culinary journey is incredibly fulfilling.
